Tjori – A Tale of Treasures

DSC_1746Started with a team of two, Tjori has not just been a venture, but an inspirational story. It all started when Mansi and Ankit were studying at Wharton Business School in North America. Like everyone else, they too had a dream… a dream to succeed; to make it big.

The two got off the usual platform of getting employed and stepped into a unique venture where they actually showcased the hidden talents of rural Indian craftsmen in the international market.

Tjori.com, a unique website was started soon through which Indian handcrafted products reached North America.

“We have grown consistently from ‘Tjori – where Indian designs go international’ to ‘Tjori – enchanting designs from across the globe that you will love’ in two years,” Mansi expresses while speaking about Tjori’s growth.

No wonder it is said that only through experiencing the moment practically, we learn something new. The same happened with Mansi. Tjori has taught her every aspect of business. “Tjori has been my classroom where I learnt what entrepreneurship actually is. Having worked in big MNCs for some years, I still find my learning quotient to have been more at Tjori rather than those MNCs,” said Mansi.

Speaking about the initial days of Tjori, Mansi said, “I still remember, the Office (002)website had crashed the day it was launched because of more number of orders than our server could withstand.” She also added, “Every second has been challenging enough. We have worked in multiple roles in the beginning right from accepting the orders to packaging and from marketing to handling customer grievances.”

Mansi also explains that her journey along with her startup Tjori has been great to be precise. She said, “As you know, this was started by just me and Ankit and today we are a team of 22 members and still growing. We are actually hiring more people

now. All I can tell is that the journey has been a great learning experience for each and every one of us,” with a feeling of accomplishment.

Undoubtedly, Tjori started by Mansi Gupta has today become what it really transliterates; a treasure chest. The products being sold by Tjori are those which are rarely found outside the market and if found, they are overly priced.

Meanwhile, speaking about the unique concept behind her venture, Mansi said that Tjori is basically run on limited time period sales model where products come and stay live for two weeks and later get pulled down from the website. People can buy the products only when they are live online.

Mansi recalled that during her Morocco trip when she was studying at Wharton Business School, she realized that there was a great demand for Indian handmade products. Also, she found out that retailers priced the handcrafted products from India insanely high and there were lots of middlemen too in the whole supply chain.

Coming to the Indian handicraft market, it is a 32 billion dollar market and for ages, following the traditional way of exporting these products to countries outside of India. There is a huge supply chain and the idea was to directly reach the customers to get them these handcrafted products from Indian craftsmen, weavers and artisans at the best possible prices and great convenience.

We see many ventures coming and going almost every day, but Tjori seems to be the one which stays for long.

The residents of Mysore, especially in the neighborhoods of Bannimantap and Rajeev Nagar are now familiar with a big truck parked on the roadside near JSS Dental College with shining lights and people surrounding it eating costly food. But wait a minute! Costly food in a big truck? Well, it seems to be costly as the big truck sells fresh American-Mexican food but that’s not really costly. “A Mysorean can now fill his stomach with some classy food for just Rs. 80 on an average,” said Syed Manju while speaking about his big boy “Tindipotha.” CLICK HERE  TO READ MORE

A GOD DAMN CONNECTION BETWEEN ELECTIONS AND ROAD REPAIRS IN INDIA!

A few days ago, heavy road construction machines started making a lot of noise near our home. It had been a long time since we heard such noises even though ours is a prime locality in our city. Asphalt is being laid and the “Drrrrrrr” sound of the asphalt mixers and other heavy machines boosting to the level no one can imagine. The main road situated to the back of our home is getting wider! It’s good and happy to see India developing. After all, we all love our India. But, a simple question that strikes my mind is – “Why does the roads get repaired only just before the elections?”

Once a politician gets elected, he stays calm till the end of his term and when the next election appears he gets active and get the roads repaired. I don’t know about other countries but in India this is the case. But why? Is it really a concern he is showing to the society or is it a concern he is showing upon himself to win the upcoming elections?

In a country like India, elections can do anything. Literally anything! I read recently in a newspaper that the government has ordered to repair the roads leading to the election booths so that the citizens of India can vote without any trouble. Oh! So you people (Government) mean to say that the citizens of India do not need good roads to commute when there are no elections. Is it?

The roads lay untouched throughout the year even though they are in their worst possible conditions. But as soon as the elections approach the roads get repaired! Some say the MP fund needs to utilized for the society! Haha! Oh really? So why don’t you utilize it until the next elections appear? Is it that the politicians repair the roads so that they can eat some more money before their term ends? A point to ponder about for sure!

These asphalt mixtures are laid so marvelously in India that just after the elections the asphalt surface of the road gets damaged and craters can be seen here and there! Now this is “Time Management”. Well, that’s Incredible India! Can’t help it!

Sometimes, India’s most famous way of asphalt surfacing makes me seriously laugh to the core! Roads are filled with patches of new asphalt layer and it’s thickness is not even as thick as my skin I guess! 😛

There is seriously a God damn connection between elections and road repairs in India!

I am back with a poem to my blog after a long period of time. My deep apologies to all my readers for a little delay between each posts. Will match up my time and get back with some mind-blowing creations of mine soon. 🙂

Hope you enjoy this poem by me.

I love you till my last breath
I love you till my death.
How much I love you; you really don’t know,
I never wanna let you go.

I want to live forever with you
I want to lead my life together with you.
I just love the care you show,
I never wanna let you go.

You’ll find my love in plenty,
Without you my life is empty.
I can’t imagine my life without you,
I always do love you.

I love you till my last breath
I love you till my death.
How much I love you; you really don’t know,
I never wanna let you go.

SMELLY – SMILEY!!!

Smelly air – these are the words which first strike me of some incidents which are usually common in every home. Have you ever smelled the socks that you wear? Well some socks Don’t smell a bad odor. But have you ever felt smelly air when those sales executives come inside your home leaving their shoes outside the main door to show a demonstration of your newly purchased microwave oven? This is a common situation for every Indian I believe. The aroma of socks that kiss our noses when such people enter – what else to tell about it! God alone can save us.

But wait! No! We have some contingency plans over here! Why simply irritate god to save our noses from such bad odors when we have Ambipur to the rescue.

Yes! Ambipur!

But wait again! Let me not shift the topic of this piece of writing. 😛

Usually whenever we have purchased goods especially the big ones like washing machine, water heater, microwave oven, refrigerator there come neatly dressed executives with formal dressing and black pointed shoes with a bag hung on their shoulders. It is never possible to close the zip of their bags all thanks to the companies for having given them so much of sales materials!

Once, such sales executives rung the bell and we were waiting for them from past two days to fix the newly purchased microwave oven and give us a demonstration. Two guys entered inside leaving their shoes outside in the balcony. They were not less than any Indian bride in creating a foot mark on the floor while entering home for the first time. The only difference here was; these guys’ socks made all the marks. Upon that, the nostalgic smelly air spread around the home as if the air molecules were shouting loudly with great vigor – ATTACK !!!

It was difficult to withstand such a scent. It wasn’t indeed a smiley air around us. I longed to go out and stand in the balcony for some fresh air but immediately – Sir! Can you please let me know which power socket can I use to turn on the oven?

The condition of our noses was so critical when such a scented odor spread across the home in just matter of minutes! What to do? As I told you before, Ambipur came to the rescue!

Another such smelly air we regularly feel in our home is when our cats come carrying in their mouth with full of pride, the corpse of dead rats! I really wonder how cats love such a scented smell! God! The trouble starts there! I and my grandpa run behind the cats not to mention but with our noses closed! The scene is no worse than a Bollywood silly comedy flick! Especially the climax where almost all the cast of the movie join at one place and the extra drama starts!

Well let me hold on to the topic of this writing! I tend to divert a lot from my topic isn’t it? May be that’s why some call me a chatterbox! 😛

So! Back to the topic here I come..

The cats run here and there along with the dead rat in their mouth. I and my grandpa run behind them with a cent percent belief in catching the cats n snatching the rat from their mouth with a special weapon or we may call it as lengthy cutting pliers! A lengthy one cos we should make sure the rat doesn’t come in contact with our body!

So, how to get rid of that scented odor? Well once again, Ambipur is the answer!

Since this piece of writing is not constrained for just smelling socks and dead rats, let me also share a few of those smells which bring heaven in front of my nose!

The smell of tasty north Indian masalas that my mom prepares very rarely! That’s really a heaven to my nose! What a taste! I mean, here it is better to tell – what a smell!

The noodles and masala oats are the two dishes worth mentioning when it comes to the topic of smells I love! Another smell I love or I better say this as a smell most of the people love and that’s the smell of mud when it rains! Who doesn’t like it? Well there may be a few but its just a few!

I am heading towards the end of this piece of writing. This was written for Indiblogger contest powered by ambipur and if any of you ambipur people read this piece of writing at any point of time, I’m sure your minds will be struck by two mind blowing advertising concepts! If so, please don’t forget to give my due credits! Haha! Anyways for now this is for a contest! Lets see whether this piece of writing turns out to be a smelly one or a smiley one!! 😛

Okay then dear readers, check this out http://www.facebook.com/AmbiPurIndia 🙂

A new poem once again in the genre I am comfortable with writing the most – Romance/Love. What more to tell about it? Just read on dear friends 🙂

A special girl you are to me my love,
to you i gave my heart but don’t know how.
You are to me my darling and my sweetheart,
no one can replace you forever from now.

You came like an angel; the one that loves me,
my beloved you are and together we are meant to be.
You are to me my madam and i am your Adam,
like you, another girl no one can ever see.

A promise of holding hands; a promise of love for lifetime,
A promise of staying together like the lines of a poem that rhyme.
Being truly yours forever hugging and kissing with love
A promise to make our life sound as pleasant as a wind chime.

To your left i stand and you to my right
Anything together we shall set it alright
At last one more promise here i make
With you forever i shall never fight

Here is another poem written by me! Check it out below 🙂

The day I first saw you,
I forgot this world,
Flying in my dreams,
High like a bird.

The day I first saw you,
Chills ran down my spine,
And I knew,
Forever you’ll be mine.

The day I first saw you,
My heart was gone mad,
I gave to you,
All the love I had.

The day I first saw you,
I felt the brightest sunshine
Of my life and now,
My life is complete with you as mine.

A new romantic poem written by me recently 🙂 Let me present it below with any delay!

I don’t know why you come in my mind
Every day n every night.
The feeling when I see you is so kind
I want to hug you tight.

Why does my heart skip a beat
When i have a look at you.
When i saw you i got up from my seat
Just to fall in love with you.
